When I received the enquiry for Mark and Julia’s wedding I was thrilled, Bastide de Gordes is a magnificent vista to shoot a wedding against and the hotel Airelles Gordes is the best place in town to secure an unspoilt view of Provence.
Dominated by its medieval castle and the Saint-Firmin church, it’s easy to spend the day walking along the cobbled alleyways that wind between the towering houses made from dry stone that have been hollowed out of the rocks and cling to the sides of the cliff face.
Gordes is an inspirational, romantic and beautiful place to get married.

Bastide de Gordes | French Wedding:
Mark and Julia are a super lovely couple, very much in love and were looking for a relaxed and documentary style to their wedding photography.
Having decided on a destination wedding they wanted their images to reflect the location and capture the essence of Gordes and it’s beautiful streets and view.
Julia also mentioned that she wanted to spend 25 minutes walking around the town to capture some newlywed portraits.
Bridal Preparation:
Julia, her sister, mum and best friends got ready at the Airelles hotel, where you can see the ceremony garden from the room. Occasionally getting a glimpse of Mark (her fiance) putting the finishing touches together.
Julia’s family are from Australia, and you could see the Aussie spirit running through them as her sister nursed a damaged ankle in an ice bucket – determined not to miss walking down the aisle for her sisters wedding.
The Ceremony:
The ceremony was held in the garden of the Airelles Gordes Hotel in Bastide de Gordes, overlooking the Luberon valley.
Mark, who was relaxed and confident all morning, looked anxious and close to tears as Julia slowly walked towards him.
To heighten the emotion, Julia’s father acted as celebrant and married his daughter.
The Reception & Party:
Guests dined outside in the garden, on a long feasting table, where the couple also held their wedding speeches. The setting was stunning and I managed to sneak into a room above to capture an aerial image.
This was a beautiful wedding, intimate and relaxed. The location and venue were stunning and I look forward to revisiting for another wedding soon.
