Top of my Top Ten Buckinghamshire Wedding Venues is the incredible Hedsor House — a venue that holds a special place in my heart, as it’s where I photographed one of my very first weddings. Even now, I still feel a buzz of excitement every time I return to shoot here.

Set within magnificent parkland just a stone’s throw from London, Hedsor House blends traditional grandeur with effortless charm. From the moment you arrive, the imposing Georgian architecture, iconic dome roof, and sweeping private gardens create a sense of occasion that’s hard to beat.

02.

Stoke Place

Classic charm just outside London

Just 30 minutes from central London, Stoke Place is a beautifully restored 17th-century mansion and one of my favourite Buckinghamshire wedding venues. I’ve had the pleasure of photographing weddings here over the years and even had the opportunity to write a review for The English Wedding Blog about this wonderful venue.

From the moment you step inside, you’re welcomed by sweeping staircases, elegant chandeliers, and grand bay windows — all perfect for capturing timeless wedding photography. Outside, the serene lake, mature trees, and expansive parkland provide a stunning backdrop for couple portraits, formal group shots, and those candid, unposed moments that tell the story of your day.

I particularly love using the bridal suite for morning preparations — the large, light-filled windows create soft, flattering light that’s ideal for capturing those quiet, intimate moments with the bride and her bridesmaids.

Stoke Place also stands out for its versatile ceremony and reception spaces. Each couple I’ve photographed here has brought their own style and personality to the venue, and it always adapts beautifully. The events team are fantastic — calm, professional, and quietly brilliant at making everything run smoothly, with minimal fuss. And the food? Absolutely exquisite.

With accommodation available in both the main house and the charming Herb Garden rooms, your guests can fully relax and enjoy the celebrations — making Stoke Place perfect for a proper wedding knees-up.

Notley Abbey

ROMANCE AND EXCLUSIVENESS

Nestled on the Buckinghamshire-Oxfordshire border, Notley Abbey is a truly timeless wedding venue that blends centuries of history with exclusive elegance. Once the marital home of Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh, this former Augustinian abbey is steeped in romance—and it shows in every corner of the estate.

From a photographer’s perspective, Notley Abbey is a dream. The sweeping tree-lined driveway is iconic—a cinematic setting for that ‘just arrived’ shot or a romantic golden hour stroll. Inside, the abbey’s stone walls and leaded windows cast beautiful soft light, perfect for intimate ceremony moments and atmospheric portraits.

The Abbot’s Hall offers character and charm for civil ceremonies, while outdoor weddings in the walled garden bring a sense of secluded tranquillity. Couples often fall in love with the blend of heritage and comfort; think roaring fires in winter, or champagne on the lawn in summer.

As a documentary wedding photographer, I’m drawn to the storybook setting and natural backdrops—not just for couple portraits but for those candid moments: a stolen kiss under the arches, laughter spilling out onto the terrace, or guests enjoying sunset by the River Thame.

Whether you’re planning a chic black-tie affair or a relaxed country celebration, Notley Abbey delivers both sophistication and soul. It’s a venue that truly photographs beautifully in every season.
