Some top tips for your

VOCO OXFORD WEDDING

Make the Most of Golden Hour

One of my top tips for couples marrying here is to plan time for golden hour portraits along the riverbank. As the sun sets behind the trees, the light softens to a warm glow that’s incredibly flattering and cinematic. A short walk down to the jetty or the riverside gardens gives you a moment of calm together — and the resulting photographs are always some of the most cherished.

Consider an Outdoor Ceremony

Voco Oxford Thames offers beautiful outdoor ceremony options. The Riverside Pergola is particularly popular for summer weddings, framed by lush greenery and views of the Thames. If you love the idea of natural light and open-air vows, this space is well worth exploring. Just remember to have a weather contingency plan — the British climate can be unpredictable!

Embrace the Venue’s Heritage

The venue’s medieval buildings, with their vaulted ceilings and original beams, bring a sense of history to your celebration. The Little Barn and the Conservatory are both characterful spaces for your reception. Incorporate soft candlelight and simple floral styling to complement the period features without overwhelming them.

Plan Confetti and Group Photos Thoughtfully

The walled courtyard is an ideal spot for a big confetti moment or group photographs. Its enclosed feel and beautiful architecture create a natural backdrop with minimal distraction. It’s also conveniently close to the bar, so guests don’t stray too far while you capture these important images.

Arrival by Riverboat

For something truly memorable, consider arriving by boat. Voco Oxford Thames has its own private mooring, and I’ve photographed weddings where the couple made their entrance by river — it always makes for stunning, story-driven images and a bit of theatre that guests will never forget.

Relaxed, Storytelling Photography

My approach at Voco Oxford Thames is to document your day unobtrusively, focusing on genuine emotion and those spontaneous moments in between. The venue lends itself perfectly to this style — the flow of guests between the gardens, terrace and reception spaces means there’s always something happening to capture naturally.

A Few Practical Tips

  • Accommodation: Voco Oxford Thames has lovely on-site rooms, which is a great option for guests travelling from further afield and for you as a couple to have a relaxed morning getting ready.
  • Timings: Factor in a little extra time for moving between spaces. The grounds are expansive, and you’ll appreciate a slower pace to take everything in.
  • Seasonal Considerations: Spring and summer are beautiful here, but autumn weddings are equally special. The golden foliage along the river makes for breathtaking portraits.

If you’re planning your Voco Oxford Thames wedding and value photography that feels warm, elegant, and true to your story, I’d love to hear more about your plans. This venue has such a natural beauty that with the right approach, your images will feel effortlessly timeless — a collection you’ll look back on for years with a smile.
