Beautiful wedding photographs of Ashdown Park wedding

I’ve captured numerous weddings here over the years (you can see some below), and It’s a fabulous location for your wedding. The support team are excellent and the venue offers an amazing backdrop to your wedding day.

When photographing here I often use the grounds for family and newlywed portraits. The grounds make for excellent newlywed portraits, either by the lake or near the long grass.

If you’re feeling a little shy, around the front of the house is also a small garden that offers a quiet and intimate spot to escape from guests.

For family portraits I tend to use the steps, to give me height and keep the stunning grounds in the background of images.

Inside the hotel is an amazing reception room for wedding breakfasts and the evening party, surrounded by stained glass windows that make a very unique and epic set of photographs.

I’m proud to call myself an Ashdown Park Photographer as this is an excellent venue and one I love shooting at.

ASHDOWN PARK HOTEL

Ashdown Park Hotel Weddings – A Classic English Setting for Elegant Storytelling

Ashdown Park Hotel is one of those rare venues that seems to hold its breath just for you. Tucked away in the Ashdown Forest in East Sussex, it has a quiet grandeur about it – the sort of place where time slows down a little, and the moments between the moments really shine. If you’re planning a wedding with a blend of timeless elegance and natural beauty, Ashdown Park is a standout location.

As a documentary wedding photographer, I’m always drawn to venues with strong character and great light. Ashdown Park offers both in abundance – whether it’s the stained glass shadows cast across the Richard Towneley Suite or the warm afternoon sun spilling across the lawns. It’s a venue where your story naturally unfolds, beautifully and without pretence.

Why Ashdown Park Hotel Makes an Incredible Wedding Venue

For couples looking for a stately country house feel without the stuffiness, Ashdown Park Hotel delivers in spades. The venue is part of the Elite Hotels group, which means excellent service and thoughtful details from start to finish.

You’ve got 186 acres of sweeping parkland, a lake with a romantic stone bridge, mature woodland, and an architecturally rich building full of nooks and backdrops. In short, it’s a photographer’s dream – and a stunning canvas for your celebration.

There are a range of spaces available depending on the size of your wedding, but the real showstopper is the Richard Towneley Suite – a former chapel with original stained glass windows and vaulted ceilings. It’s a space that needs very little dressing. Just add emotion and people.

A Photographer’s View of Ashdown Park Weddings

From the moment you arrive, the scale and beauty of the grounds sets the tone. I always recommend couples take 10–15 minutes away from the reception for a quiet stroll and a few portraits – not just for the photographs, but to catch your breath and connect. The bridge by the lake is perfect for this, especially as the sun drops and the light gets softer.

Inside, the interiors offer drama and warmth. That chapel suite? Unreal during golden hour. And if it rains (because, well, England), there’s no shortage of beautiful indoor options for portraits and candid moments.

Ceremony and Reception Spaces

Ashdown Park caters for both intimate elopements and larger wedding celebrations. For bigger guest lists, the Richard Towneley Suite can host up to 150. For something smaller, there’s the Jacob Henniker Room, which has plenty of natural light and views across the lawns.

There’s also the option of outdoor ceremonies, which can work beautifully in late spring and summer. Think drinks on the terrace, acoustic music drifting over the lawn, and guests mingling with champagne in hand while the light glows across the treetops.

Guest Experience and Accommodation

One of the reasons couples love Ashdown Park is that everything’s on-site. There are over 100 bedrooms, so your guests don’t need to think about taxis or navigating country lanes at midnight. Many of the rooms look out over the grounds – a lovely touch for morning preparations.

The on-site spa and golf course make it a great option for a full wedding weekend. Arrive the night before, settle in, and let the nerves ease. The bridal suite is spacious and flooded with natural light – ideal for getting ready photos and those quiet moments before everything begins.

Helpful Tips for Your Ashdown Park Wedding

1. Think About Your Light: The grounds are stunning, but parts of the forested area get shaded quickly. Golden hour is your friend – plan a 20-minute window for photos around then if you can.

2. Be Open to the Weather: Rain doesn’t spoil weddings, but having a flexible timeline and indoor options in mind helps everything stay relaxed.

3. Use the Grounds: Don’t be afraid to explore. That little bridge, the wooded path, the stone terrace – all make for great natural portraits and moments away from the crowd.

4. Work With the Team: The wedding team here are brilliant – professional but warm, and genuinely invested in your day. Trust them with the details so you can focus on each other.

Final Thoughts

Ashdown Park Hotel is a venue that quietly commands attention. It’s elegant without being overdone, full of character without feeling cold. It’s a place where memories sit comfortably amongst the history.

If you’re looking for a wedding venue in East Sussex that offers beauty, atmosphere, and space to breathe, Ashdown Park deserves a place on your shortlist. And from a photographer’s perspective, it’s a place where real moments happen against a truly cinematic backdrop – the kind of setting where your story can be told honestly, beautifully, and forever.
