HANNAH & BENAshdown Park Hotel Wedding Photography
Hannah and Ben’s wedding at Ashford Park Hotel was a whole lot of fun to capture, with a chimney sweep, a cat, cigars and stained glass windows a-plenty.
I got to know Hannah and Ben before the wedding day at their pre-wedding shoot and on our consultation calls. They’ve known each other since school and have dated from when Ben plucked up the courage to ask Hannah for a date after a school trip. Photographs were an important part of their day and they wanted a documentary style to their wedding images.
Ashford Park Hotel is a stunning venue, surrounded by the Ashdown Forest, which according to the famous children’s author, A. A. Milne, is the woodland that inspired his Winnie The Pooh stories. We made plenty of use of the grounds for Hannah and Ben’s newlywed photographs during the day whilst the stained glass windows and vaulted ceilings of the converted chapel made for a stunning backdrop to their wedding breakfast and official cake cutting.

Ashdown Park Hotel Wedding Photography:
The morning of the wedding was full of excitement and anticipation as Hannah, her mum, sister, gran and best friends got ready in the bridal suite, full of light and laughter. The packed room made for some great documentary photography shots as the chaos slowly morphed into the organised and we drifted from joggers to wedding dresses.
Ben and the boys were getting ready nearby, captured by my assistant on the day, Deji Johnson, whom I imagine was not complaining at being stuck in the bar as the boys counted down the hours before I do.
Back in the bridal suite and emotions were riding high as Hannah’s dad popped in to see if the girls were ready to travel to the church. It was a little overwhelming and made for a beautiful moment as Hannah’s dad saw her in her wedding dress for the first time. This emotion flooded the day as one of Hannah’s friends and bridesmaid sang beautifully to guests as the bride and groom signed their marriage certificate. The speeches brought some light hilarity as the ushers embellished their reading with creative gestures and interpretations of the words they were asked, I suspect, to read more solemnly.
As the day rolled on, Hannah was surprised to see two unexpected guests arrive, the traditional and supposedly ‘lucky’ chimney sweep and his black cat. I have to admit to being somewhat shocked to see the cat was real and seemingly quite happy to be perched on the chimney sweeps shoulder, lapping up all the attention.
The party got started under the light from the stunning stained glass windows, reflecting beautifully onto the room and creating a real theatre feeling to the dance floor. Hannah and Ben took 15 minutes out of boogying to capture some evening portraits before Ben and his ushers celebrated the day with a cigar.
This was a fabulous wedding and a real delight to capture. Special thanks to Deji, my fellow photographer on the day.
