Ironmongers’ Hall is a Tudor style hall, just next door to the Barbican in the City of London. It’s history stretches back to the 1920’s and it stands as one of the 12 great Livery companies.

It’s imposing and elegant rooms, architecture and decor make for a beautiful wedding venue and where Elena and Samuel chose for their wedding reception.

Elena and Sam contacted me about their twist on a Russian and British wedding earlier in the year, explaining they were keeping both sides of the family happy by combining traditions from each into their day.

An incredible experience and beautiful memories to cherish

Bridal Preparation:

Elena and I met at the Beaufort Hotel in Knightsbridge where she was getting ready with Sam’s sister (her bridesmaid), she was by her own admission very nervous.

That nervousness seemed to disappear when her wedding car arrived and Elena shrieked with excitement. A huge Bentley car fanatic, Elena could not wait to get into her dress and go see her car!

The Ceremony:

We drove through Knightsbridge, arriving at the Russian Orthodox, Dormiton Cathedral for the wedding ceremony. Sam was already there greeting guests and making sure that the British guests knew what to expect, including the holding of two crowns high above the bride and grooms head that would have an athletes arms shaking.

After the ceremony the Russian guests threw coins as is the Russian tradition and the whole wedding party made their way to Ironmongers Hall in central London.

The Reception:

Whilst guests were arriving myself, Elena and Sam took some time to capture a few newlywed shots. I always advise couples to make this time in their day, and although daunting at first it’s usually a fun time of the day to relax away from guests.

The wedding breakfast was a traditional British affair in the great banqueting hall, with Russian style speeches, each guest standing up and saying a few words…which were translated for both sides of the family to enjoy.

Despite the language barriers, this was a lovely wedding to document.
